Shuntaro Furukawa, head of Nintendo, gave a public comment regarding the decision to increase the price of the upcoming Switch 2. The console is expected to become more expensive in all regions of the world — for example, in the United States the increase will be $50. The price hike is mainly planned for September, but Japanese consumers will face the new prices already this month.At a recent financial meeting, Furukawa offered a deep apology to the audience for the inconvenience caused. He explained that the corporation had long tried to contain rising production costs, wanting to make the console as affordable as possible, but ultimately this became impossible (and even the new price does not cover all expenses). To justify the price increase, the leader promised to prepare an impressive set of quality games for the Switch 2. He also explained why the sales forecasts for the console’s second year were more modest compared to the first year’s results: the initial figures were unprecedentedly high thanks to an excellent supply chain, but demand remains stable. According to reports, the Switch 2 has already sold 19.86 million units (for comparison, the original Switch reached nearly 156 million).
