With the launch of the 4th season of "Honzuki no Gekokujou" (also known as "Ascendance of a Bookworm") a scandal erupted: viewers noticed that the opening contained scenes with a distinctive "machine-like" style and suspected the use of generative AI. Fans reacted especially sharply after the change of production studio: instead of Ajia-Do, Wit Studio is now working on the new season.

The animators admitted that they indeed used AI tools when creating certain scenes of the opening due to production schedule issues. At the same time, the company apologized to viewers and promised that in the upcoming episodes, AI-generated segments would be removed and replaced with full traditional animation. Reminder: new episodes are released on Saturdays — the second episode of the season is expected soon.
