State of Decay 3 will lose the zombie animals that were shown in the first cinematic trailer in 2020: Undead Labs head Philip Holt explained that at the time of the announcement the game existed only as a concept “in a Word document,” and the video was entirely made by the Blur studio.
As the team grew and development moved into full production, some ideas from the debut trailer were kept, while others were abandoned — including infected animals like the deer, although Holt did not disclose the reasons for this decision. The events of State of Decay 3 take place several years after the second part, featuring new types of threats and ways to combat them, and alpha tests with four-player co-op, updated base building, and new resource management strategies will begin in May.
