Wayne June allowed Red Hook Studios to use AI to synthesize his lines before his death, but the game developers decided not to touch the actor's legacy.
Red Hook co-founder Chris Bourassa admitted that Wayne June, the legendary voice of the Darkest Dungeon narrator, left the team written consent to generate his lines using artificial intelligence. This happened in one of the last letters shortly before his death in January 2025. Interestingly, the actor was previously a staunch opponent of such technologies.Bourassa is confident that June simply wanted to show care for the studio and the game's fans, and the team never asked him for such a thing. The creators flatly refused to train machines based on Wayne's recordings, wishing to preserve the living, human nature of his talent and thus paying tribute. Chris Bourassa also mentioned that the company supported Wayne's family after his passing. During his career, June became memorable not only to fans of Darkest Dungeon but also to Dota 2 players thanks to a special commentator pack.
