The review embargo for 007 First Light was lifted on May 26, and the scores were impressive: 88 out of 100 on Metacritic based on 45 reviews and 89 on OpenCritic — with a 100% recommendation rate. Many journalists called it the best James Bond game since GoldenEye.

Special attention was given to the combat system: critics described the hand-to-hand fights as “chaotic” in the best sense — Bond uses the environment and improvised weapons, and the fights turned out spectacular and cinematic. The shooting was less convincing, but the authors managed to accurately convey the atmosphere of explosions and car stunts. Stealth plays a supporting role: in some situations, direct confrontation is unavoidable, and then stun, gadgets, or Bond’s own charisma come to the rescue.Patrick Gibson as Agent 007 was noted separately: according to reviewers from VGC, the actor managed to create a truly original image of a young Bond — daring, arrogant, and impulsive, while skillfully balancing action and lyricism. Among the weaknesses, an uneven plot and underdeveloped villains were highlighted. The Guardian, VGC, and Vice gave the game a perfect five out of five.
