The developers stated that they never gave permission for commercial crowdfunding.
The studio GamesVoice, which announced a collection of 3 million rubles for an unofficial Russian voiceover of Phantom Liberty, received an official denial from CD Projekt Red. In the company's Telegram channel, a representative of the developers reported that no consent was given for the creation of this localization, and the use of fan content for commercial purposes is not approved. According to him, the position has remained unchanged since 2023, when GamesVoice first approached with this proposal.
The key reason for the conflict was the collection of donations: this can be qualified by the rights holder as commercial use of intellectual property. Previously, GamesVoice assured that the project fits within the rules of fan creativity and promised to redirect funds to the voiceover of GTA: San Andreas in case of unforeseen circumstances. The studio has not yet given a detailed comment on the further fate of the campaign.
