The next main installment of the franchise will feature Kratos's wife in the otherworldly dimension.

At the June State of Play presentation, Santa Monica studio officially introduced God of War Laufey — the new main entry in the series. The protagonist is Faye, Kratos's wife, who died before the events of God of War 2018. Her journey takes place through Eternity — the afterlife dimension where gods from various mythological traditions engage in an unending struggle for dominance. According to the plot, Faye's journey will somehow be connected to the ascent of Kratos and Atreus to the highest peak of the Nine Worlds.

The studio showed twenty minutes of gameplay. In the footage, Faye encounters two gods — the Egyptian Sekhmet and the Buddhist Runner. The combat system has become noticeably more dynamic compared to previous parts: the heroine can easily soar into the air without interrupting attacks. The warrior's arsenal includes a legendary sword and the Golden Hand of the Jötnar, which allows her to rip souls from enemies' bodies.
