Paramount Games Studio has shut down the ambitious project but does not rule out a new game in the franchise.
The big-budget role-playing game based on the animated series "Avatar: The Last Airbender," announced in October 2024, has been officially canceled. This was reported to IGN by Sean Kittelsen, head of the creative department at Paramount Games Studio. According to him, by the time the new studio was formed after the merger of Paramount and Skydance, the project was no longer in active development. The game was being developed by Saber Interactive — the creators of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Under the working title Ice Wars, it was planned to tell the story of a new Avatar in an era thousands of years before the events of the original series. The project was positioned as "the largest game in the Avatar universe" featuring mastery of all four elements and dynamic combat alongside companions. The release was expected in 2027–2028.A similar fate befell Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin — the project was postponed but later handed over to PlatinumGames, and development will continue. The RPG based on "Avatar" was closed down permanently. At the same time, Kittelsen did not rule out the appearance of another AAA game in the franchise in the future.
