Due to a decline in Fortnite activity and rising expenses, Epic Games announced large-scale layoffs and the closure of three game modes.




Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney published an open letter on the company's official website announcing the elimination of 1,000 positions across the organisation. The primary driver is a sustained decline in Fortnite player engagement that began in 2025, which has left the company in a position where it is, in Sweeney's own words, "spending significantly more than it earns." Alongside the layoffs, Epic plans to unlo
