The new animated film is making box office, but the press is cold.
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto admitted in an interview with Famitsu that he did not expect such a restrained reaction from critics to "Super Mario: The Galaxy Movie." The film scored only 43% on Rotten Tomatoes — compared to 59% for the first part. According to the game designer, it is precisely the critics who should support the development of the film industry, but in practice, they behaved passively.
At the same time, the picture is confidently doing well at the box office: in four weekends, global box office exceeded 750 million dollars. For comparison, the first part ended its run with a result of over 1.3 billion. Analysts predict that the sequel will surpass the one billion mark, although it will fall short of the original.
