A similar situation is observed on the portal Metacritic: the sequel earned 50 points compared to 44 for its predecessor.

One should not expect deep dramaturgy from the film — much time is devoted specifically to the tournament, and in the intervals between brutal and bloody fights, the characters exchange barbs. Critics were delighted with the fight choreography, the abundance of references to the original source, and the acting (in particular, highlighting Karl Urban as Johnny Cage). Journalists note that the creators worked on their mistakes: the tournament, which was absent in the previous film, starts almost immediately here. And although the movie is unlikely to receive prestigious awards, and picky fans will find graphical inaccuracies, it is an excellent entertaining blockbuster.
