The film about aliens in the Korean countryside has received its first critical reviews.

Na Hong-jin, who directed "The Chaser," "The Yellow Sea," and "The Wailing," presented his new film "Hope." This is the director's first work since 2016.The thriller's events unfold in the Korean province near the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. At first, locals report a wild tiger spotted in the district, but it soon becomes clear that the threat is much more serious — an alien invasion is being prepared on Earth.The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, after which the distributor Neon released the first trailer. The clip shows fragments of action scenes and several aliens.The first reviews from the foreign press have already appeared. On Metacritic, the film has a score of 66 out of 100. Journalists note that the film is intriguing but too stretched out: its runtime is 2 hours and 40 minutes. Among the drawbacks are the not very convincing CGI, although it is partially compensated by creature design, dynamic scenes, and bold humor.The film stars Hwang Jung-min, Jung Ho-yeon, Michael Fassbender, and Alicia Vikander, but the latter two were not shown in the teaser. "Hope" will be released in American theaters in the fall.
