Nolan's new film will break records for cost among "adult" blockbusters.
The upcoming adaptation of the Homeric poem by Christopher Nolan received an R rating — an unusual choice for major studio releases, which traditionally aim for the widest possible audience. According to Variety, official explanations for this decision have not yet been provided. Presumably, the reason was intense scenes of violence, including those involving the mythical cyclops.
Nevertheless, an R rating is not always an obstacle to box office success — "Oppenheimer" in 2023 grossed nearly a billion dollars worldwide. The budget for "Odyssey" reaches 250 million, and by this measure, the film is second only to "Deadpool and Wolverine."
According to data from the TCL Chinese Theatre cinema website in Los Angeles, the runtime will be 2 hours and 52 minutes. The premiere is scheduled for July 17.
