HBO's Harry Potter series has proven its cultural weight before a single episode has aired — its debut trailer is officially the biggest in the platform's history.

Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed in an official press release that the trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone — the first season of HBO's upcoming live-action series — has set an all-time record for the network and its streaming platform HBO Max. In the first 48 hours following its release, the trailer accumulated 277 million organic views across all platforms, without any paid amplification.
That figure represents more than double the previous record held by any HBO or Max title. Warner Bros. did not specify which project previously held the benchmark. For context, the result places the Harry Potter trailer among the most-viewed promotional clips in streaming history.
The first season of the series, based on J.K. Rowling's debut novel, is set to arrive in late 2026. The production team has already cautioned fans not to expect annual seasons — the scale of the show makes that release cadence unfeasible, and subsequent seasons will require longer gaps between them.
