Sony Interactive Entertainment has agreed to acquire the British studio Cinemersive Labs, founded in 2022 and specializing in machine learning and computer vision technologies.
A small team of eight people develops solutions that allow AI to analyze images: their portfolio includes the VR application Parallax, which turns ordinary photos into 3D images, and the Cinemersive AI technology, which creates volumetric images from a single frame.
After the deal, Cinemersive Labs will join the SIE visual computing group and will focus on developing advanced graphics technologies for games — from improving rendering methods and machine learning systems to enhancing the level of visual detail in future PlayStation projects.
