From February 18, 2027, Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 will take effect across the European Union, requiring manufacturers of portable electronics to allow users to replace batteries on their own. The requirement covers smartphones, tablets, and other devices with portable batteries: device design must permit battery replacement using standard household tools. If opening the casing requires specialized equipment, the manufacturer is obligated to include it in the box free of charge.
