New estimates of the potential power of PlayStation 6 have appeared online: technical analysts believe that the next-generation console will be able to sustain ray tracing at up to 60 frames per second, largely thanks to the use of RDNA 5 architecture. Experts talk about a significant step forward in hardware-accelerated ray tracing.Preliminary calculations suggest that ray tracing performance in PS6 could be about ten times higher than that of the standard PlayStation 5. However, in real games, the increase will most likely be closer to threefold — it all depends on how deeply developers integrate ray tracing into rendering and gameplay.Interest in such forecasts increased after the demonstration of the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 Pro, on which ray tracing was able to run at about 30 FPS with a number of optimizations and upscaling applied. Against this background, it is assumed that the full next generation will be able to approach a stable 60 frames even with such a resource-intensive image. There is also a downside: according to rumors, Sony is considering mandatory support for a portable version of the system. The weaker processor of the “pocket” model could potentially become a bottleneck for developers — especially in terms of complex physics, NPC density, and other computationally expensive elements that have to be balanced to a common minimum power.
