Sony has shared details about how artificial intelligence is applied in its internal game studios. Representatives of the industry giant emphasize that the main task of AI is to simplify and speed up the production process, not to take jobs away from employees. According to Hiroki Totoki, head of Sony Group, the creative core of projects must always remain with people, while neural networks are intended to assist artists and programmers.AI-based tools have already become an integral part of PlayStation studios' daily operations. For example, the teams at San Diego Studio and Naughty Dog use the Mockingbird system, which can automatically generate facial animations based on motion capture data, significantly saving time when creating cutscenes. A technology has also been developed that converts real hairstyle videos into 3D hair models. Neural networks assist in automating tests and modeling three-dimensional objects. Other divisions of the corporation also show interest in AI: Sony Pictures has invested more than 50 million dollars in generative technologies, and Sony Music is working on a system for labeling AI-generated content. While many companies approach neural networks with caution, Sony (alongside Capcom and Larian Studios) openly supports their widespread use.
