According to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the matter, Nintendo has decided to reduce Switch 2 production by more than 30% after sales during the end-of-year holiday period in 2025 came in below the company's internal targets, most notably in the United States. Christmas season sales in the U.S. reportedly fell approximately 35% short of what the original Switch achieved in its first year back in 2017. For the current quarter, Nintendo now plans to ship approximately 4 million units of the Switch 2, down from an originally planned 6 million; the reduced production pace is expected to carry into April at the start of the following quarter. The picture varies significantly by region: demand in Japan has remained robust — with a cheaper domestic-only variant helping to sustain interest — while overseas markets have seen a notable cooling-off


The news sent Nintendo's stock sharply lower.
